Die Coronakrise betrifft uns alle; Große wie Kleine, Künstler wie Arbeiter, Gesunde wie Kranke. Alessia, Leadsängerin von Temperance, hat sich in dieser chaotischen Zeit ein paar Minuten genommen, um Vita Nigra zu dem Thema Rede und Antwort zu stehen.

Vita Nigra: Erstmal Hallo und herzlichen Dank für dieses Interview.
Ursprünglich war das Coronavirus ja „nur“ in China ein Problem und hier im Westen dachten viele nicht groß darüber nach. Habt ihr euch zu der Zeit schon Sorgen gemacht, dass das Virus eure Pläne beeinträchtigen könnte?
Alessia: Wir haben echt nicht realisiert wie schnell sich das Coronavirus über die Grenzen hinaus verbreiten würde, also nein, wie waren nicht besorgt. Kurz bevor wir mit Temperance auf Tour gingen, war ich als Mercherin mit einer anderen Band unterwegs. Damals schien die Situation nur in Italien wirklich schwierig zu sein. Zwischen Ende Februar und Anfang März änderte sich alles.
VN: Wann wurde euch klar, dass das Virus eure Tour ernsthaft gefährden könnte?
Alessia: Während diesen zwei Tagen bevor ich mit Temperance wieder auf die Straße ging (3. und 4. März) waren die TV-Nachrichten nicht allzu ermutigend. Einige europäische Länder begannen sich wegen italienischen Touristen und Einwanderer besorgt zu fühlen. Ich dachte wirklich, wir würden Portugal nie erreichen. Über 2‘000 km ist eine lange Fahrstrecke und wir fuhren zwei ganze Tage durch.
VN: Wo und wann habt ihr erfahren, dass ihr eure Tour abbrechen / verschieben müsst?
Alessia: Nach vier Tagen in Spanien erhielten wir die ersten schlechten Neuigkeiten. Unser letzter spanischer Gig, in Barcelona, war abgesagt worden. Da haben wir realisiert, dass unsere Tour bald enden würde. Trotzdem fuhren wir von Bilbao nach Marseille, denn die Situation in Frankreich war zu der Zeit noch nicht wirklich klar. Aber genau an dem Tag erließ die französische Regierung den Erlass, Veranstaltungen mit über 100 Personen zu verbieten. Damit war es für uns unmöglich, weiter zu spielen.
VN: Welche Auswirkungen hat dieser Abbruch / das Verschieben auf euch (persönlich, als Band, finanziell usw.)?
Alessia: Finanziell gesehen war es eine absolute Katastrophe. Alle Investitionen, die wir für die Tour getätigt hatten – Mieten, neuer Merch, Treibstoff usw. – hätten durch die Mercheinnahmen der Tour abgedeckt werden sollen. Dass wir 19 von 23 geplanten Shows nicht spielen konnten, bedeutete entsprechend riesige finanzielle Verluste für uns.
Natürlich waren wir alle auch wütend, frustriert und vor allem traurig ob dieser chaotischen Situation.
VN: Wie können euch eure Fans unterstützen, damit ihr diese Krise so gut wie möglich übersteht?
Alessia: Das beste was die Fans – nicht nur für uns, aber für all ihre Lieblingsbands – machen können, ist Merch aus dem Webstore zu kaufen: eine CD oder ein T-Shirt reicht schon, um einen wirklichen Unterschied zu machen.
VN: Was möchtet ihr euren Fans in dieser schwierigen Zeit sonst noch mit auf den Weg geben?
Alessia: Wir möchten unseren Fans von tiefstem Herzen danken, denn sie haben uns nicht im Stich gelassen. Wir haben so viele Nachrichten bekommen. Sie haben auch auf unsere Bitte reagiert und uns unglaublich unterstützt, in dem sie so viel Merch aus unserem Webstore gekauft haben. Dafür werden wir uns niemals genug bedanken können.

Vita Nigra: Hello and thank you for the interview.
First the coronavirus seemed to be „only“ a Chinese problem. People in the western countries were not really concerned. Were you worried at that time already, that the virus might interfere with your plans?
Alessia: We really couldn’t realise how quickly Coronavirus was spreading beyond the countries, so no, we weren’t worried about that. Just before leaving with Temperance, I was on tour with another band as merchandiser and the situation seemed serious in Italy only. Everything changed between the end of February and the first days of March…
VN: When did you realize that your plans could be jeopardized by the virus?
Alessia: During those two days I spent at home before leaving again with Temperance (March 3rd-4th): the news on TV were not at all encouraging and some European countries started to feel worried about the Italian tourists or immigrants… I really thought that we would never reach Portugal (2000 km and more is a long distance, we needed 2 full days of driving…)
VN: Where and when did you find out that you have to cancel/postpone your tour?
Alessia: After 4 days spent in Spain, we received the 1st bad news about the cancellation of the last Spanish gig, Barcelona: that’s when we were realizing that our tour was going to an end. We drove anyway from Bilbao to Marseille, because in France the situation wasn’t really clear… but on that same day the French government decided to issue a decree for all the events and manifestations, by limiting the audiences up to 100 people. It was no longer possible to play…
VN: What consequences does the cancellation/postponing of the tour have for you (personal, as band, financially…)?
Alessia: Financially speaking, it was catastrophic. All the investments we made for the tour (rents, new merch, gasoline etc.) had been planned in order to sell merch gig by gig: the cancellation of 19 shows out of 23 scheduled between March and April meant a huge loss of money to us.
And of course, we all were angry, frustrated and sad about all of this crazy situation.
VN: How can your fans help you to survive this crisis?
Alessia: The best thing they can do now, for us and for all their favourite bands, is to support us buying some items from our webstore: an album, a t-shirt is enough, they really can make the difference with a little gesture.
VN: What else do you want to tell your fans in these difficult times?
Alessia: We really want to thank them from the bottom of our hearts, because they didn’t abandon us and they have sent us a lot of messages. They’ve also answered our call and they’ve given a strength support to us buying a lot of items from our webstore, it really surprised us! We’ll never be able to thank them enough in a proper way!
